The bold rhubarb is already partly decaying, as the first frost has softened its leaves and the micro-organisms have started their toil. The process produces soil for new plants to grow in future. This was my first oil painting in 29 years and it was just so much fun to make little visual jokes and enjoy mixing the colours.
